Here We Go - Adventuring Again!

Hey everybody!

I'm Katie, and my husband Mike and I just embarked on a huge new chapter of our lives: he finished his ER residency this month, and before we move to California from Michigan for his new job, we're taking a ~7ish week adventure across the US (Eurotrip got cancelled) in our new camper, a Little Guy Max (who identifies as female and is named "Tie," short for "Take it Easy.")

Just about to hit the road!

While most of you reading this are probably friends and family, this is a public blog (just like the good ol' days from my years in France, Senegal, and Saudi Arabia), so it'll be written in a way to reflect this. I'll be writing it, but Mike will be contributing his thoughts as well.

I've missed blogging, but for a lot of reasons, I haven't done a whole lot of writing the past 6 years. One of the main reasons I stopped was because a lot of people had a lot of opinions about what I should or should not be writing about, how I should or shouldn't write it, and my people-pleaser heart just couldn't take it anymore.

Ready to get out of Dodge!

Thankfully, I've come to accept in a big way that you can't possibly make everyone happy, so I've lowered my expectations, I invite you to lower yours, and I'm leaning in to the discomfort of the vulnerability of writing and opening up because I used to love it and would like to just, like, live my life doing things I enjoy whenever I can, you know?

(Also, if you thought of Brene Brown just now reading that - I love you).

My cozy corner where I'm writing to you from.

So here we go! We're hitting the road, leaving from Howell (Mike's hometown) and snaking our way up through Michigan for the first 10 days with family as the longest, drawn-out Midwest goodbye you've ever seen, and then the plan is to see friends in Minnesota, make our way through South Dakota, and then flop around the Pacific Northwest until we need to mosey on down south to Redlands, California.

Sounds just awful, right?

Cheers,

Katie

  1. Hello. I first read your post on the Little Guy Max FB page and just wanted to say hello on your Blog site as well. On FB, we're known as FernandoPatConejo. I'm sure you've already have many sights along your route that you're planning to see but I just wanted to recommend at Highway Mile Marker 264 on I-90 traveling in South Dakota, there is a 50 ft stainless steel statue of an Indian Women in a Star Blanket. It overlooks the river and the city of Chamberlain SD. It is a large state rest stop as well. My wife and I passed through there in 2017 and were so impressed with the statue entitled Dignity. I hope you have an opportunity to stop and snap a few pics there. Please travel safe and enjoy the experience!
